What is a travelblog?
Travel Blogs are a natural progression from traditional paper based travel journals that have been kept for centuries. Traditional travel journals or travelogues often documented a specific journey, sometimes included drawings, clippings, tickets, cuttings from literature, pressed leaves or flowers and notes from people met on the road.Since the early days of the web travel journals have been stored on line, since the popular term for an online journal is become blog, a contraction of web log, the term for travel journals on the internet has become travel blog.
The word "blog" was originaly coined by John Barger in 1997, by 2002 blog had just started to be commonly used, in April 2002 TravelBlog.org was formed. Ali Watters decided to create a blog site specifically for travellers, opening up the first true free travel community with blogs for all travelers, and including features such as unlimited photo storage.
Travelblog.org is now the internet's premier travel community. Travel blogs on travelblog.org have now become virtual digital scrapbooks, allowing members to host videos, unlimited photos, create route maps, and interact with one of the friendliest travel communities around.
Visitors to travel blogs are presented with the opportunity to armchair travel to all parts of the globe, read stories from as far back as the 1920's right to up to the minute reports.
